Guidelines for Third Party Fundraiser Events
Thank you for choosing to support the ALS Society of BC. Please review the following guidelines prior to starting a third party event.
What is a Third Party Fundraising Event?
Third party events are fundraisers benefiting the ALS Society of BC that are coordinated and implemented by an individual or an organization in the community. Third party fundraiser events do not involve the provision of participants/attendees, auction items or sponsors as part of the ALS Society of BC’s involvement in the event.
Support from the ALS Society of BC
- Processing tax receipts.
- ALS promotional materials (e.g. ALS BC brochures, banners, donation boxes, etc.)
- Sending press releases to local media
- Event day volunteer support
- Online fundraiser page
- Event information on website
Donations / Tax Receipts
A tax receipt is given to people who make a personal donation to a registered charity. The donation must be made directly to the ALS Society of BC (e.g.: writing their cheques out to ALS Society of BC) and without personal return. All cash donations of $20.00 or more are eligible for receipts. Donation “in-kind” (an item or service) may not be receiptable, so please check with the provincial office Donor Relations Manager to confirm eligibility. We require the following information to properly process a tax receipt:
- Donor’s Name
- Donor’s Address (including postal code)
- Donor’s Telephone Number
- Amount of Donation
We can provide you with a generic template form for this purpose.
Tax receipts cannot be processed by the ALS Society of BC unless the event organizer remits the funds. Processing tax receipts takes 2-4 weeks after the donation has been received through the ALS BC office.
Third Party Event Registration
The ALS Society of BC requires three weeks’ notice prior to any third party event. ALS BC will provide you with an event registration form to fill out and return.
ALS Society of BC Logo Use
The ALS Society of BC logo is the property of ALS BC and therefore, use of the logo is allowed only with the expressed permission of the Society. Usage is limited to the approved event and we require final approval of any event materials containing the logo.
If you require volunteer support on event day, please contact the ALS Society of BC’s Volunteer Program Coordinator at least three weeks prior to your event. The Volunteer Program Coordinator will strive to fulfill requests for volunteers subject to availability.
All third party fundraisers need to comply with the Team ALS BC & Yukon Volunteer Guidelines.
Where the Money Goes
The ALS Society of BC is dedicated to providing direct support to ALS patients, along with their families and caregivers, to ensure the best quality of life possible while living with ALS. In BC, 85 cents of every dollar raised goes directly to the cause.
