PEOPLES DRUG MART RECEIVES EXCEPTIONAL PUBLIC AWARENESS AWARD
Ed Sue, Director of Marketing of Peoples Drug Mart located in Burnaby, BC, received ALS Society of Canada's Exceptional Public Awareness Award, which recognizes their efforts to raise awareness of ALS, on May 1, 2010 in Toronto.
For the past six years, People's Drug Mart has been a provincial partner with the ALS Society of BC. They have been active supporters of ALS in Victoria through increasing public awareness and fundraising. Each September they attend ALS BC's WALK for ALS and set up a booth to help raise money and distributing literature about the disease.
There are 39 stores located throughout BC with each store supporting ALS BC. Several store owners have been personally touched by ALS. Every April, the stores sell Stars of Hope for ALS, covering their walls with a sea of yellow stars. During this month $1 for every bottle of Jamieson, Webber Natural and People First vitamins is donated to ALS.
"This exceptional support would not be possible without the support of their entire Board, their CEO Ian Maxwell, and their marketing team led by Ed Sue. They have so far raised more than $250,000 for ALS; raising $60,000 last year, alone," says Menno Froese, volunteer and former president, ALS Society of British Columbia.
The Exceptional Public Awareness Award recognizes individuals, a group and the media whose aim is to educate and increase awareness of ALS. Activities in the category may include liaisons with the media, coordinating public awareness displays and public speaking.
