Camp Alohi Lani

Printer-friendly version

Camp Alohi Lani, which means ‘Bright Sky’ in Hawaiian, is a camp for youth who have a parent (or grandparent in a significant role) living with ALS. Through funding received from sponsors, the society is able to offer a youth weekend retreat at no cost to families affected by ALS. The camp is a safe setting in which youth aged 8 to17 can come together and receive support on their ALS journey.

The  camp is offering a respite where kids can be kids. Most importantly Camp Alohi Lani offers campers an opportunity to meet other youth from across BC and make connections with peers.

In 2016 all children who enrolled in the program were accommodated.  There were 26 campers (2015:33 campers; 2014: 27 campers; 2013: 31 campers).

Excluding administrative and miscellaneous expenses the annual expense in 2016 was $19K (2015 $20K; 2014-$21K, 2013-$20K).

Our 2017 camp will be held on  August 25 to 28, 2017 at Camp Jubilee in Port Moody.  Please wait for further announcement regarding registration from our patient services coordinator, Alex Guerrero.

“ I am happy that we have this camp to come, to where everyone understands what each other is going through”.  Comment from a 10-year-old participant.
